Pushing the Ball | Table Tennis Techniques

URL : https://youtu.be/KNOGnwlubms

Hello everybody. Today, I would like to show you how to push long or push short on a short ball to the forehand side. I've spoke about the flips previously. However, most of the time we receive the short serves with a push, either push long or short. So, specifically, how do we do this return? First, similar to the flip, we need to place our body as close to the ball as possible. Why don't I say about getting the hand as close to the ball as possible? Because once your body is close to the ball, as you can see here, the hand is naturally close to the ball. You must get your body close to the ball, and your hand will follow close to the ball. Second point is, if you want to push long or short on the serve, I suggest you contact the ball on the rise. This way we can leverage the spin from the opponent and have a better receive. Please watch. You'll notice that my body is close to the ball. This is a short push or a drop shot. For short pushes, please watch no matter how long or short the push, I contact the ball with the tip of the paddle. If you use the bottom of the racket, you're not able to leverage the forward energy I apply. Now, for the drop shot, I only use my wrist. Just a little pointing like this is sufficient. I'm going to contact the side of the ball. Just a little pointing and use the incoming energy from the opponent. A little touch will allow the ball to get over the net. Now for a long push, I hit the ball slightly higher on bounce. You want to move your body slightly forward. When I touch the ball, I'm going to give it a little bit of energy. Again, you want to touch the side of the ball and give energy towards the side of the ball. Then the ball will be able to land long. Watch on the long push. I'm going to give it a little bit of energy. The forearm and hand just give a little bit of energy to leverage the energy from the opponent, then it will be a long push. You don't want to do it like that with stiff and brute force. You'll see this one here. The ball travels very fast, but I'm not using a lot of energy. I'm leveraging the incoming energy. Your energy forward into the side. You must go to the side a little bit so the ball does not go out of the table easily. It'll be a little bit more of a safe shot. And for the short one, you just want to slice on the side just a little bit. Now if it's a lot of backspin, you want to open the paddle up a little bit. And if it's not so spinny, you want to have it a little bit more vertical.
